Moon Rise with Aurora

264/366

Last night's Southern Lights lasted for several hours and at times were particularly bright and vivid, covering almost the whole of the sky. The weather was really nice, very clear and calm and not very cold - the outside temperature was only -27°C and there was less than 2 knots of wind, making the conditions ideal for staying outside and enjoying the view. And staying very late last night was definitely worth it!

In the image visible is the Communications Array (HF Antenna Towers and the Satellite Dome) with the Aurora Australis overhead. Just right of the centre of the image the Moon can be seen rising over the horizon behind the cloud.
