360° of My Pit Room

199/366

Seeing as it's Sunday, I've spent the whole day resting, relaxing and recharging batteries. As for most of the day I've been in my pit room, I thought it might be interesting to show how does a pit room at Halley look like. This is a 360° by 180° panorama consisting of 12 images stitched together.

There are two Bedroom Modules: B1 and B2. Each of those consists of eight pit rooms. In winter season, every team member has a pit room for just themselves, but in the summer, they share with another person (hence two bunks). Every pit room on station looks exactly the same, with the exception that the pit rooms on the west side of the modules are a mirror reflection of their corresponding pit room on the east side.

When you enter my pit room, the bunk beds will be on your left, while the desk and the three wall mounted shelves will be on your right. Each pit room also has two wardrobes and two sets of drawers underneath the desk top, as well as two extra drawers under the bottom bunk.

The pit rooms are possibly some of the most important bits of space on the modules, as they each give their occupier a bit of private, personal space and every person usually makes it their own and a bit more homely by putting pictures of their loved ones on the walls or other personal effects around. For me, the pit room is a little bit of a refuge, where I can come in, close the door and enjoy my own world!
