Relief operation
057/366
The main vehicles used for hauling cargo during the relief are the John Deere's and the Pisten Bully's. A typical cargo train might consist of the pulling machine and a set of sledges with cargo in various forms, from fuel drums containers to broken bulk. Typical cargo weight is around 30 tonnes. The distance to cover between the relief site and the station, this year, is 45km each way. It takes anywhere between 3 to 5 hours for the John Deere with a full load of cargo to cover the single trip journey and during that time, the weather can change quite significantly. What started as a bright, sunny day with a bit of wind, later turned into a full blow with the visibility dropping below 100m.
