Dobson Spectrophotometer
025/366
Dobson spectrophotometer, originally invented in 1924 by a British physicist and meteorologist Gordon Dobson, is an instrument which measures the amount of ozone in the atmosphere. This particular, modern instrument, was used for ozone observations when the Ozone Hole was originally discovered at Halley in 1985, and is still in use today. Members of the Science Team working at Halley make several ozone observations every day, monitoring the levels of the ozone in the atmosphere, assuring the continuity of this hugely important programme.
