For nine months in a year, Halley is completely isolated from the world, with no access by air or sea. This means we need to be as self-sufficient as possible. In addition to having enough fuel, food and clothing, we also need spare parts for the station's technical and scientific infrastructure. In case of an issue, where we don't have a ready spare, some items can be made from the basic components we do stock. In the picture, the small bits and bobs segregated into little colourful containers on the wall of the Electronics Lab, which are used for building and fixing electronics equipment used for scientific experiments.
