Windy Sunset

246/366

Today was a beautiful day, with the outside temperature just below -20°C, a bit of wind and mostly clear skies. For most of the afternoon there was diamond dust, which created impressive sun halo, sun dogs and sun pillars.

In the image, the setting sun is casting beautiful orange glow on the windtails to the west of the modules. As the sun dropped low just above the horizon, it went behind a layer of cloud, which weakened and then completely blocked the halo and the sun dogs effect.

The soft smooth surface of the snow is caused by slight drifting snow (ice crystals carried just above the surface by the blowing wind).
