One of the tasks that the Field Guide has for the winter at Halley is to service all Nansen sledges which are in use. This involves digging them out, stripping the load and the lashings off, fixing or replacing broken elements and tying it all back together. Once finished, all equipment is checked and packed into boxes and dry bags and mounted on the sledges again, to make them ready for another season.
