When the outside temperatures go above -30°C or so, we can start using Skidoos for moving around the base perimeter. There are several types of Skidoos on station, from little Tundras (in the picture) used for zipping around the perimeter, to Skandics (larger doos with more power and much better stability) used for traveling in the field (e.g. for winter trips), to Aces, which are the newest ones in the fleet, and which are also used for traveling in the field.
In the picture is the Bombardier Tundra skidoo, with the sun directly behind it. When the picture was taken, there was about 15 knots of wind, which carried ice crystals with it - these can be seen as tiny glitter in the lit up areas just above the snow surface.
