Following a week of substantial blow, with the winds avarging between 35 and 45 knots, it was remarkably calm and warm today at Halley. The outside temperature climbed up to -5°C and only started dropping very slowly back down (it's -6.6°C now).
The sky is still overcast - it's fully covered with Cirrostratus cloud and lower layers of cloud are slowly filling the sky too. This created the partial halo effect - the lower right hand side of the halo is now covered by what looks to be some Altostratus or Stratus cloud coming in. To the top and left of the frame a few bright stars can be seen, but unfortunately no shooting stars! (I'm envious of those of you who are in the Northern Hemisphere, having a chance to see the Perseids show of the decade).
