Fuel for the station

358/366

One of the vital supplies brought in by the ship is the fuel for the station, vehicles and aircraft. To make logistics easier, all generators and vehicles (with the exception of skidoos) run on AVTUR, which is the aviation fuel for turbine engines. This requires slight modifications to the diesel engines and also means the vehicles run with reduced performance, but the ease of having to use only a single type of fuel more than makes up for this.

During this call, the ship brought 1800 standard 205 litre drums as well as 246 cubic metres of bulk AVTUR which is transferred to several bulk fuel containers, each 22 cubic metres in capacity. All this is a minimum of two years worth of fuel.
